It’s a scorching summer. West Lothian Private Eye, Jack Black, is going through a dry spell at work too. Then Grace McGuire arrives in his office, and in no time Jack is up to his ears in an investigation that involves him in evangelical religion, sexual promiscuity and murder. Dangerous conceits, indeed.
DANGEROUS CONCEITS eBook Dennis O'Donnell
Extremely well written and highly literate tale of a private detective from a rural area outside Edinburgh. I loved his use of Scottish dialect at times. Dialog is excellent. The plot is a somewhat believable tale of misdirection, a cult compound [this stretched credulity], weird sex behaviors that would not be as wide-spread as suggested, and the intriguing way the Jack figures out what is really happening.
Characterizations are good. The main character is Jack Black, a private investigator. I find him much more likable than John Rebus [and I am a great fan of Ian Rankin]. The characters tend to be much more likable - and this is true of the Scots I have known.
One sneaky red-herring suggesting a romance that could be - and Jack doesn't follow through, damnit!
Looking forward to the next Jack Black adventure - Well Done, Dennis O'Donnell!

DANGEROUS CONCEITS eBook Dennis O'Donnell Reviews
Being new to downloading e-books on a , I have been limiting myself to the free downloads. This book, Dangerous Conceits, was one of them. It turned out to be a surprisingly fun read, with a good plot.
Meet Jack Black. Jack is a Shakespeare quoting, blues loving, Private Detective based in Bathgate, Central Scotland.
This is a very entertaining read that is narrated by our hero, with some of the funniest lines I have ever read.
There is murder, perverted sex, and a religious cult, what more could you ask for.
I am looking forward to meeting Jack Black again.
Another PI novel but SO much better. The writing flows so smoothly and it's riddled with humor interspersed with words I actually had to look up. Some characters speak with a Scottish accent and that just helps the book. The characters are well thought out and this PI is the best!!!! Wonderful read that will have you laughing out loud. Fantastic way to spend the day.
